Food for Thought

Saw this little gem and had to share…

Words are like food for the soul! Good ones will make you feel good, bad ones will make you feel horrible. And the ones not said make you feel empty!

Pumpkin Picking – 2012

At Schmitt’s Farm in Melville, NY today

Today a couple of family members and myself went over to Schmitt’s Farm  in Melville, NY to take the little ones pumpkin picking.  Pumpkin picking is another reason why I am loving fall.  We try our best to go together every year but with everyone’s crazy schedules sometimes it isn’t that easy to agree to one date.  Thankfully today worked out!  This was the first time any of us had been to Schmitt’s and I must say, I wasn’t disappointed.  (Good pick, Danny!)  They had tons of activities for the kids, lots of pumpkins of course, food/snacks and a farm store where we could purchase some homemade farm goodies.  (All hail apple butter!)

Some of the children’s activities included a couple of bouncy houses, two inflated slides (one very high one for bigger kids and a medium sized one for the small children).  They also had a small park with tons of slides and cool photo props to take pictures with the family.  The animal feeding was also pretty cool.  Sean is usually a bit scared when it comes to large animals but I am happy he mustered up some courage and fed the farm animals.  The children also got to go on a short pony ride and then of course the hay ride to the pumpkin patch.  While we were all excited to pick out our pumpkins for carving and painting, my sister in law, Eva, and my mom were more excited to pick peppers and eggplants.  (Can’t take them anywhere, I tell ya!  hehe)  My mom kept telling everyone, including strangers, that she was going to make some great pepper steak.

We had an awesome day at the farm and I would definitely recommend Schmitt’s Farm to anyone looking to go pumpkin picking.

Below are some pictures from our day at the farm.  Enjoy!

All pics taken with my handy dandy iphone!  Still working on saving for a pro camera. 😦

Hope you all are enjoying your Saturday!  In Jersey now with more family.

Protein Shake

Happy Hump Day!!

We had run out of protein powder and I havent been making my breakfast shakes at all. (sad panda)  As I mentioned in last nights post, we went over to GNC and picked up some much-needed whey protein.  (along with some fresh fruits and spinach)

Protein shakes have become so fun for me.  The combination of different types of fruit, vegetables, and/or flavored protein makes it feel like your having a different meal each day.  The way the flavors come together is so neat.  (can’t say the same about the color 😦 ) and call me lazy but just putting all the ingredients into a blender makes it so easy to fit anyone’s lifestyle.

This morning I woke up excited to use the “double-decker chocolate” protein powder we purchased.  I combined it with some almond milk, spinach, blueberries, strawberries and a large banana.  And voila I had my breakfast ….

Do you make protein shakes? Whats your favorite combination?

Uneventful, Yet Very Gratifying Weekend

::Phone rings::

“Hey Julie! It’s me Karen.”

“Hey Karen! What’s going on?”

“Nothing much, its Friday.  Time to go out and get some drinks!!”

“Place and time?”

That’s what my weekends used to sound like.  This is what weekends still sound like to many of my friends that are single and don’t have children.

Friday night Carlos, Sean and I went over to Panera in Bay Plaza to get some dinner.  I had the chicken tortilla soup with half a tuna fish wrap.  Carlos had their tomato basil soup with half a smoked turkey sandwich.  (Sean is a picky eater so he had eaten at home before leaving and just had something to drink at Panera.)

Someone wasn't too happy about taking this picture.

Saturday I was home all day with Sean.  Playing Avengers on his Nintendo DS.  Making pancakes and turkey bacon.  (his favorites)  Picking up around the house and waiting for Carlos to get out of work.  We had plans of going into Manhattan and visiting my mother and niece.  Once in the city we were starved so we decided on Chipotle.  We always hear everyone raving about their burritos but never had one.  So yesterday was the day to try it and boy did we love them.

As they say their guac rocks!! However, I don't think its worth an extra $2.50 for a teaspoon of guac on your burrito. =/

Carlos wasn't too excited about Chipotle prices. YIKES!

Today looked a lot like yesterday without the Chipotle.  My mom cooked dinner and invited us over.  We LOVE mom’s cooking so we didn’t turn the invite down.  I absolutely love spending time with my mom.  She truly is my number one fan and makes me feel good about all the decisions I have made.  She’s also probably the funniest person I know.

While at home today, watching Million Dollar Listing New York I jokingly sent Carlos a text telling him I wanted to sell a million dollar home in New York and cash in one of those sweet commission checks.  He replied with a “LETS DO IT!!” and that instead of Property Brothers we could have a show called Property Lovers. Haha Can you guys see that!!?!?

"PROPERTY LOVERS" no? okay okay!

Hope you guys had a great weekend.  I’m capping mine off with a good movie and a cold Blue Moon…. Yeah I don’t go out as much as I used to but to see this face….

And this guy ….

in the Dominican Republic

And to be apart of this family….

Sounds just as good to me!!!
